A hurt child
Telling another
“Make a sandwich”
Her silence handed
Down in wonder bread
And guava y queso crema Her unfinished childhood Staring back at her
Mother and daughter—
What she endured
Became my inheritance
Living proof
Of what she could not face Although she gave what she could absence—
I learned to be the steady thing she could not be
Living in echoes
Never in harmony
