Brick City Slut: Artful Lewds

Hello my darlings,

So you want to send some salacious photos, but you’re not quite sure where to start? As someone who may or may not have taken many suggestive self portraits, I have some advice to offer. Prior to Tumblr’s terms of use changing, there was an incredible blog called ‘Critique My Dick Pic’. The author offered helpful and reflective feedback on submitted images, and really raised the genre of the often aesthetically unappealing, low effort ‘dick pic’. This column is inspired by and written in honor of that blog.

Eroticism is about suggestion rather than exposure.  A successful lewd photo does not reveal everything. To captivate the viewer is to leave unanswered questions in the image. Fragments offer possibilities.

Technical suggestions: focus on composition and lighting. You might find a phone tripod and a timer useful, a ring light, or LED lights to play with colors. In terms of composition, try to have a clean background without clutter so that you are the focal point. Sheets can give a nice texture and gently obfuscate.

Privacy considerations: keep in mind that you don’t have control over images once you share them. In other words, trust is important. If you’re more privacy conscious but still want to send images consider using Signal and not posting your face or tattoos. If someone sends you photos, take care and don’t share them without permission.

I would be remiss not to remind you: ask for consent before you send sexy photos to people, unsolicited is unappreciated. If you decide to create and share images, have fun, the experience should be joyful and playful!
