To the editors of The Newarker,
I am writing to present and introduce myself to the Newark community, who may read this and want to know more about the North Ward’s Friendly Neighborhood Midnight. As a reader and concerned member of our community who strives to try and make Newark a better place, I believe it is important in some sense to spread awareness of the good I’m trying to accomplish in Newark, a city which I believe has folks that want to do good, but just lack inspiration to try and make their neighborhoods a better place by getting involved in mutual aid, or participating in local activism organizations.
Firstly, I would like to commend the Newark Water Coalition, Newark Community Street Team, and Ironbound Community Corp, for their efforts to better the community and lives of the Residents of Newark. They deserve the utmost respect and were both honorable mentions and inspirations for my work as a masked activist.
For the past year, I’ve been Newark’s Midnight. I’ve been patrolling the North Ward of Newark, keeping folks safe, handing out to the unhoused community, feeding stray cats, and trying to make it a better place for every mother, father, child, and individual that lives in the North Ward. The reason I started this was because I believe that if anyone can do something good for the benefit of others, they should.
However, I would definitely say that you don’t need a costume decked out with Kevlar to help people and make a difference in the community. As cool as the suit looks, readers can just as easily make an impact by donating to local soup kitchens, creating or joining outreach organizations, or joining activism groups in Newark to make an impact.
Sincerely,
Newark’s Friendly Neighborhood Midnight
